Classroom Driver’s Station

Krauss-Maffei Wegmann

The KMW classroom driver’s station is based on an accurately reproduced vehicle driver’s position with terminal connected for fault introduction by the instructor. The KMW classroom driver’s station is a cost-effective training aid for the basic training of motor vehicle drivers. The open cabin design allows additional trainees to follow the training which results in a higher trainee throughput. The rugged construction guarantees long value retention and high availability.

The following are the training objectives with the KMW classroom driver’s station:

  • Familiarization with physical conditions
  • Familiarization with the positions of the control and display elements
  • Training of basic operator functions
  • Practicing of procedures for handling malfunctions and emergency situations

To implement these training objectives, the KMW classroom driver’s station offers a high level of fidelity with respect to the positioning and reproduction of the control elements. Components are taken from the real vehicle or they are accurately replicated. KMW has built the classroom driver’s station for the Leopard 2 battle tank and the Boxer. The KMW classroom driver’s station can be expanded by adding an environment simulation function to the cabin and connecting it to the KMW T&S simulation environment via an I/O system. The KMW classroom driver’s station can then be upgraded to become a simple driver training simulator by means of standard software components for image generation and battlefield simulation. Networking with a gunnery and combat simulator is then only a small step so that the KMW classroom driver’s station can also be used for training tactical driving in cross-country terrain.
